2018 Ford Expedition

Current generation of the Ford Expedition arrived in 2006 and the ever since crossover hasn’t suffered any big changes. Is it time for u-turn for the company and this segment we will see when US manufacturer launch 2018 Ford Expedition. Changes could be radical, starting from platform, which is old and quite useless nowadays, over engine, to the overall design. Probably big fuel consumption made engineers to this step, but all fans should be excited about these news, since better vehicle is coming. Nevertheless, overall dimensions and exterior at first sight are near.

2018 Ford Expedition engine

Engineers have prepared 3.5-l EcoBoost V6 engine, which is suitable, in some varieties, for many segments. Same unit is going to be installed in the 2018 Ford Expedition. With some upgrades, crossover could get 440 hp and 450 lb-ft of torque. Powertrain and output is similar to F-150 Raptor truck.

New transmission should be developed by the time when Expedition SUV comes out, so 10-speed automated gearbox will transfer power to rear wheels. All-wheel drive is also an option, but with some trim levels. Huge crossover won’t have great mileage, with 16 mpg combined, but sprint to 60 mph in just 6.5 seconds is breathtaking fact. With planned weight loss, fuel economy should be boosted, and also acceleration.

2018 Ford Expedition redesign

Platform of the current crossover is present from the start of this generation, and new one will announce retirement of current option. After 10 years, designers decided to go with changes and 2018 Ford Expedition should me more elegant, aggressive and modern. Since SUV shares new platform with F-150 pickup truck, many features are going to be the same. 

First of all, savings on weight could go up to 900 lbs. So far, we could see vehicle with a lot of camouflage which covered most of it. However, grille and headlights are carried over from F-150, and the back of the SUV was heavily covered, so we suppose that work is still undergoing on that side. Inside, probably most will be new, starting from dashboard, over seats and storage area, to steering wheel and many stylish details all over the cabin.
