2018 Chevrolet Equinox

Chevrolet continues to offer one of their most successful crossovers, Equinox, with a lot of pros and cons. With excellent powertrain options, customers complained on fuel economy. Comfortable and quiet interior lacked safety features, and these weren’t at highest grade according to EPA rating. Because of that, new 2018 Chevrolet Equinox will be improved, and proof of this could be seen on spy photos taken while SUV was in street testing. There we can see obvious thing, that new crossover comes redesigned. Heavy cover couldn’t hide everything, so we have some knowledge about upcoming vehicle.

2018 Chevrolet Equinox redesign

There are some announcements leaked from the company about new 2018 Chevrolet Equinox. This crossover is sportier than before, with more streamlined face. From profile, it is lower and sleeker, while most of the lines could be recognized. Grille was revisited, according to spy shots.

Now it should be blacked-out and with horizontal pattern. Lamps are swept-back in front, while on the back end are the same. Radical changes are not planned, since company could launch new crossover, taking a place between 2018 Equinox and Traverse. If this plan fails, new generation of the Equinox could be solution.

Until new generation, or new model comes out, this SUV will keep its powertrains. Much criticized 4-cylinder unit will be carried over. It is 2.4-l engine rated at around 180 hp and 175 pound-feet of torque. Other one, which was better accepted, is 3.6-l V6 unit that produces 300 hp and 275 pound-feet of torque. Both drivetrains are mated to a six-speed automatic transmission and 2018 Chevrolet Equinox is going to be offered both with front- or all-wheel drive.

Exterior redesign could make new crossover more aerodynamic, so performance could be upgraded. This SUV reached 60 mph in just under 10 seconds with four-cylinder engine, and in 7 seconds with V6. Fuel economy will be better, since designers will use more lightweight materials in production. With these changes, 28 mpg rate is projected for vehicle with smaller engine and FWD, while V6 takes more fuel. Engineers are planning to offer new Equinox in V6 AWD variant with 20 mpg rate.
